Abstract

Abstract Nanoplate-decorated Au mesospheres (AuMSs) with tunable surface morphology were obtained via a facile one-pot synthesize. A possible growth mechanism was proposed in this work by analyzing the structural transformation of the AuMSs. The mesospheres with different configurations displayed significant difference in SERS activity, owing to their intricate surface nanostructures. With many desirable properties including high SERS activity, high uniformity, monodispersity and stability, and low background noise, such AuMSs may have potential as ideal SERS substrates.
