Abstract

The author analyses the showcase of Slovenian theatre, which took place as part of the 2012 Maribor Theatre Festival (Borštnikovo srečanje). The text is a short critical reflection on the performances that were shown in the showcase: The feast, or The story of a savoury corpse …, The Fisherman and His Soul, The Trial, or the Woeful Story of Joseph K., Three Sisters, Tristan and Isolde, Who Is Next?, Dangerous Liaisons and The Conference of the Birds. With no ambition to sum up the state of affairs in Slovenian theatre on the basis of these performances, the author nevertheless establishes that Slovenian theatre with its aesthetics remains very diverse, and that it is marked by strong directorial personalities, high-quality actors and good production conditions. This allows it to maintain its leading position in the region; however, it remains to be seen how the serious financial crisis will affect its future.
