Abstract

This work is one of the objectives exented during the project “Standarization of a meted of the determination and characterization of hydrocarbons derivated from oil spills in the sea by ships”, done by the Marine Pollution Control Service of the Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research Center of the Colombia Navy, during 1983. The second part, of the work oriented toward the standarization of a method for the identification of high contaminant hydrocarbons in the sea, applying the gas chromatographic and the U.V. and I.R. spectrophotometry over samples form the Cartagena bay, ships, A.P.I. petroleum crudes and other products supplied by ECOPETROL (Colombia Petroleum Company). In the Cartagena bay, were observed concentrations of aromatic hydrocarbons between 5-65 ug/L in waters, 0.018 ug/g in sediments and 0.235 ug/g in some importants comercial fishes. Almost all the petroliferous residues in the bay come from the maritime transport and port activities.
