Abstract

Three totonac communities from Puebla’s Sierra Norte are defending Ajajalpan river from the imposition of the Hydroelectric Project Puebla 1, that Mexican Government authorized to Deselec 1, S. de R.L. de C.V. for the self-sufficiency of electricity of private companies, such as Nueva Walmart de Mexico, Vips and Suburbia. Communities have turned to the Federal Judiciary Branch for justice and trying to prevent the project to being built. From my position as a lawyer in the litigation of the case and with first-hand information, in this article I systematize essential parts of that legal defense experience, showing the violations of rights committed and various irregularities in the case, including the harassment and criminalization that has tried to inhibit our work.
