Abstract

Monitoring effort intensity during sport activities is essential to control and plan trainings. This analysis can occur using the individual’s heart rate (HR) due to a linear relationship between oxygen consumption and HR. Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the effort intensity between Soccer and Futsal by measuring the HR of university players during competitive matches. Twelve healthy men took part in the study, age: 22 ± 2.8 years, and were monitored during Soccer and Futsal matches. The effort intensity of the matches was considered the mean of the two halves of the match. The players’ mean HR was higher during Futsal matches in comparison with Soccer matches (p < .01), both the absolute values, in beats per minute (bpm), and the relative values (%HRmax). The HRmax reached during Futsal matches did not differ when compared with Soccer matches. It can be concluded that Futsal matches presented higher effort intensity, measured by HR, in comparison to Soccer when young players were assessed in both sports.
