Abstract

At the cardiac department of the general Hospital of Balzano (Italy) a local area network (LAN) has been installed for the computerized management of the cardiological medical records. The hardware platform is based on a LAN of personal computers (PCs) with 9 workstations. Seven of the PCs are active workstations (input and editing of data), and two of the PCs are passive workstations (visualization and printing of data). The file-server, which is based on a PC with a 80486-microprocessor at 33 MHz, is linked with the mainframe of the hospital informations system for the online acquisition of the patient data. The application software, which has been developed within the hospital, is in part dedicated to the online acquisition of data coming from various medical devices. >
