Abstract

MICHAEL HEANEY, BA, MA, ALA, is an Assistant Librarian in the Department of Catalogues at the Bodleian Library. He has contributed articles to several journals of Slavonic studies. The Lenin Library embarked on a large-scale automation programme in 1968. Automated systems for new accessions, SDI in special subject areas, reader services, inter-library loans and duplicates exchange form the first stage of an integrated system covering all the Library's operations. To date there have been delays in implementation, and the development of inter- library co-operation will possibly result in major revision of the Library's plans. This survey of the automation programme collates the information published in the Library's annual reports and in Soviet books and journals.
