Abstract

A review of the literature indicates a participative style of management is important to job satisfaction during periods of technological change in the newsroom. Studies suggest the relationship between job satisfaction and computerization of newsrooms is a combination of four factors: method of introduction, types of positions using the equipment, individual characteristics of the users and environment into which computers are introduced. Based on past research, newspaper managers are advised to allow employee participation during the planning stage of computerization and managers are warned to plan carefully.
