Abstract

Design of protective systems in large power transformers necessitates a detailed knowledge of the magnitude and shape of the magnetising inrush current during the switching operation. It is very difficult to evaluate the inrush current analytically owing to non-linearity in the magnetisation ( B-H) curve. This paper suggests a method for the computerised evaluation of the magnetising inrush current in transformers without any drastic linearising assumption for the B-H curve.
