Abstract

The Belmont Reading Program has successfully used computer-supported writing and library research to help students with a history of poor grades, low self-esteem, and lack of interest in school work make substantial gains in reading level, performance in other classes, and personal attitude. Inexpensive computers supported individual student writing and reading in a program where a personal interest was identified for each student to make them active participants in their own learning process.
