Abstract

It is very difficult to fabricate and test every modification in the design and construction of a solar dryer experimentally. Experiments are generally time-consuming, costly, and the risk of failure is also associated with them. Computer software are being used as a possible solution to all these problems and are becoming more popular nowadays. The present article is an overview of various software technologies being used for analyzing different solar drying arrangements. Studies in this review have been presented under the categories of direct, indirect, mixed-mode, and hybrid solar drying. It is observed that computational fluid dynamics is a major consideration in most of the investigations for which TRNSYS, ANSYS and COMSOL software have generally been used. Statistica, SPSS, and Excel are some of the software that are being used for analyzing the drying behaviour of different commodities and other statistical calculations.
