Abstract
The growing interest in the behaviour of polymer solutions in porous media is stimulated by a practical application of polymers for drug reduction, oil recovery etc. Different models of porous media were used to study such a behavior. Particularly, a model device which represents two arrays of glass cylinders was recently suggested by Dyakonova et al [1]. In this flow cell the behaviour of dilute polystyrene solutions in trycresylphosphate flowing through a succession of contractions and expansions was investigated. When the flow rate, Q, exceeded some critical value the accumulation of strain by polymer molecules was observed. It manifested in a slight increase of maximum birefringence value on the symmetry axis of the cell from one pair of cylinders to another along the cell.
