Abstract

Some of the novel aspects of the spin dynamics of one-dimensional magnetic systems are illustrated by a review of some recent studies of such systems. Emphasis is laid on the role played by computer simulation calculations in understanding the fundamental mechanisms, and advances in the simulation technique for magnetic systems are described. The impact, both actual and potential, of fast vector processors, such as the CRAY computer, is assessed, with reference to specific figures for increases in computational speed.
