Abstract
This Panel consists of discussions of current efforts underway to design and test textbooks, lesson plans and teaching strategies for the teaching of computer science in high schools. Most high school curriculum development concerning computing has been directed toward the teaching of traditional subjects (physics, chemistry, math) with computers. The Panelists will have just finished a site visit with HSCS, the National Science Foundation High School Computer Science Project at the University of Tennessee. They will offer a critical look at its promises and problems compared to other approaches to teaching high school computing, such as the LOGO project, and the use of BASIC.
