Abstract

Lord (1980) has suggested a method for detecting subgroup bias at the item level. When a three parameter ICC model is used, a chi square statistic is computed on the multivariate differences between the parameter estimates of item discrimination and difficulty (the guessing parameter is held constant). LOGIST is a program to compute the parameter estimates but it does not contain procedures for calculating the chi square statistic. A series of programs written in the BASIC language have been developed that create and modify files of the parameter and theta estimates. The final program uses these files to calculate the needed chi square statistic and provides additional descriptive statistics that are used to check the input.
