Abstract

The motion of a wavefront in deep water can be quite complicated, owing to the variation of sound velocity with depth. To help visualize this motion, a digital computer was programmed to produce a movie of the wavefront motion for arbitrarily specified velocity variation and source position. Examples of such computer-generated movies for various velocity profiles are shown to illustrate the utility of the technique.
