Abstract

The grounding recommendations of computer manufacturers are intended to minimize electrical noise by providing isolated ground systems. However, some of their recommendations violate the equipment grounding rules in the National Electrical Code and may also contribute to noise and other problems. NEC grounding principles that pertain to computer grounding are discussed; NEC violations at computer installations are reviewed; and signal grounding considerations are explored.
