Abstract
A simple computer program to display results and suggest diagnostic possibilities for 12 blood chemistry tests was developed. An SMA 12/60 Auto-Analyzer performs these tests. The program is simple because it does not seek a definitive diagnosis. A commercial computer, not otherwise connected with a hospital, can run the program. The technic compares the patient’s pattern of high and low test values with a pattern associated with each diagnostic possibility. The computer prints results in order of decreasing overlap of the patient’s pattern with the patterns stored in the table. The program helps physicians remember age- and sex-dependent normal ranges as well as test patterns for different diseases.
