Abstract
The focus of this research was to determine the computer end-user skills needed by business professionals now and toward the year 2000. Human resource executives of 83 Fortune 500 companies completed a questionnaire that identified the important computer end-user skills related to hardware, operating systems, word processing software, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, programming, telecommunications and groupware, and discipline-specific information systems. The findings indicated that 20 end-user skills are important for all the business professionals now and toward 2000, and 15 discipline-specific information systems skills are important for the professionals in the respective disciplines now and toward 2000. The respondents also provided additional valuable suggestions for business professionals to stay on the competitive edge.
