Abstract

Abstract Problems of independent billing have been successfully resolved by direct control of a billing system utilizing a computer leased by a group of radiologists at Massachusetts General Hospital. Direct supervision of the billing cycle improved doctor-patient relationships and stabilized clerical labor and other operating costs. The potential advantages associated with direct supervision of a tailored computer system are applicable to all groups whose volume/cost structure dictates utilization of electronic data-processing, even though entirely different equipment, programming, and procedural steps might be used.
