Abstract

This activity offers students a chance to practice mental computation and judge the effects of various rules for formatting output. Blank computer cards can be held up with different PRINT statements on them, and students can respond on paper (gridded maps of the computer's text screen) or simply explained orally. Practice with both written and oral responses to this activity is important. The ability to predict is an important problem-solving skill that can be practiced by using BASIC and the computer.
