Abstract
Relative consonance of groups of compound tones is calculated using a model that is based on the physiological theory of tone consonance developed by H. Helmholtz. The calculated consonance, represented as ‘dissonance landscapes’, is at the centre of a proposed computational method for arranging tones in harmonious relationships. Examples of applying the method using an experimental software for computer-assisted microtonal composition are presented.
