Abstract

The term computer assisted set-up, as used by the author, refers to that technique which enables a computer to adjust the field defining parameters of a radiotherapy treatment machine. With due regard to safety and provided that the patient does not significantly change position after the initial set-up, the computer may take control of the machine to change the parameters for subsequent fields of a multiple field treatment. To this end, a system has been developed that allows a microcomputer to control a 6 MV linear accelerator.
