Abstract

The CALCHEM project (Computer Assisted Learning in Chemistry) has as its main objective the enhancement of the learning opportunities within chemistry teaching laboratories by augmenting the available facilities to practise problem-solving skills in a laboratory environment. The project involves cooperation between five universities and four polytechnics and its evaluation poses considerable problems. The system for evaluation which has been established is designed to be sufficiently flexible to react to changes in the project's detailed objectives and procedures, to feed back to the project information on which any such changes are made, and to be responsive to the needs of the various audiences who are interested in the results of the project's work.
