Abstract

A recent review of Spanish language-learning software is compared with a look back at a 1992 study (Schrier and Fast) which focused on the use of CD-ROMs (Compact Disc-Read Only Memory) in the foreign language in elementary school (FLES) classroom. Findings from a survey of technology use in Spanish FLES classrooms and FLES classroom observations illuminate the issues and concerns today, including the types of technology that Spanish teachers incorporate in their lessons and the types they avoid. Despite the continued production of software by textbook manufacturers and educational learning companies, Spanish FLES teachers maintain that CD-ROMs are not helpful in their teaching.
