Abstract
Most PMTS (Predetermined Motion Time Systems) in common use today employ some sort of coding system to classify various human motions. This requires fairly extensive training to determine what codes to apply to motions observed. The new computer system FAST uses a “natural language” approach to find standard times within the system, a technique called “Element Language”. This smart software just begged for a natural-language predetermined motion time system (PMTS). The author studied a number of PMTS in depth, including MTM-1, MTM-2, MTM-UAS, MSD (Master Standard Data), MOST, and MODAPTS. Although quite similar in the way that human motions were classified, each system employs a different coding system for the motions. Based on this research, a new PMTS called MST (Motion Standard Times) was developed by the author, using more self-descriptive, natural language “coding”.
