Abstract

The paper describes three applications of computer assistance to the mechanical engineering design process which have been beneficial to research and development work associated with Zero power nuclear reactors. The applications covered the drilling of patterns of holes in plates, the design of high pressure flanges and the design of simple harmonic cam profiles. The principal benefit derived from the assistance was the reduction in the effort required to produce engineering drawings. Secondary benefits such as reduction in manufacturing cost and enhanced design freedom were also experienced.
