Abstract

ABSTRACT Computer-aided vegetation mapping is illustrated by an approach which utilised LANDSAT multispectral scanner data in digital form to aid in mapping the vegetation of the fynbos biome. Computer-aided analysis of digital imagery is equated to visual interpretation of standard photo products. The steps undertaken in a visual approach are converted into a flow chart utilising available PIPS & CATNIPS image processing routines. A brief description of the types of map classes generated by computer processing is given.
