Abstract

ABSTRACT Denudation of spoil dump due to heavy rain is a major problem for many Indian mines specially the Iron ore mines located at high altitudes. An attempt is made here to determine the extent of soil erosion effect on the dumps due to rain water flow on the dump surfaces. Computerised techniques are used to determine flow lines along which flow of the surface runoff would possibly take place. These flow are responsible for carrying down waste material to the base of the spoil dump. Volume estimate of the erosion is also carried out here using standard techniques.
