Abstract

From 1977 to 1983, Thyssen Stahl AG has gradually built a test and inspection line for rails ; then in 1987, a computerization of this control was set up.The test facilities consist of an eddy-current evaluation for superficial defects, a device for measuring the rail-height and its running surface flatness in the same way as an internal defects control.A computer aided quality assurance system is integrated into the flow of materials. Since 1987, about 100,000 rails have been inspected.
