Abstract

The clinical value of CT scanning as a diagnostic imaging modality is unquestionable. However, the rapid technologic advances occurring today make it necessary to constantly re-evaluate the relationship of CT to other imaging modalities. At times, CT evaluation of the liver should be the initial diagnostic study; more commonly, it will follow other examinations---principally, ultrasonography. CT may be complementary, supplementary, or it may provide no additional information beyond that provided by other studies. The relationship and interplay of all these diagnostic modalities should be kept in mind so that appropriate evaluations may be performed.
