Abstract
The input resistance of a shon filamental antenna in a warm isotropic plasma is computed for several antenna lengths and for a wide range of frequencies. These computations, which are based on kinetic theory, are compared with the result of the hydrodynamic equations. The comparison shows that the hydrodynamic result is incorrect below the plasma frequency, but is a good approximation above the plasma frequency if the antenna is long compared to a Debye length. For antenna lengths comparable to a Debye length, however, the hydrodynamic result is valid only at frequencies far above the plasma frequency.
