Abstract

This chapter investigates the problem of two-dimensional (2D) direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of coherent signals with low complexity and automatic pairing of 2D angles. The new method incorporates the unitary ESPRIT into three parallel uniform linear array structures. Due to real-valued operations in unitary ESPRIT, the proposed method is computationally efficient. Further, without any additional processing, the proposed one resolves the coherent signals with automatic pairing the 2D angles. Simulation results are performed to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method and compared with the Cramer–Rao lower bound and the propagator method that are available in the existing literature. The results achieved by the proposed method were found to be significant in terms of estimation accuracy, resolution, and the computational complexity.
