Abstract

Abstract This paper summarizes the successful application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to study the flow phenomena inside the hydraulic tank of an earthmoving vehicle. The main purpose of this CFD analysis is to reduce the aeration inside the tank suction lines to avoid any cavitation damages to the suction pumps. The main source of aeration is suspected due to the strong fluid circulation inside the partially filled hydraulic tank. The CFD analysis predicts qualitatively as well as quantitatively the fluid circulation in the tank. Also, the CFD analysis is used to find the fluid pressure and velocity distribution in the tank.
