Abstract

The views of Dave Thomas on significance of programming and computation as an intellectual career which demands wide spectrum education combined with practice are presented. A complete education in computer science should include some basic principles which allow student to contribute in future work environment instead of only focusing on use of latest 'right technology'. The IEEE and ACM curriculum for computing education reduces importance of programming languages. The computing education needs to be taught in an application context rather through idealized problems.
