Abstract

A d v a n c e s in the f ie ld of high speed c o m p u t e r s have m a d e it pos s ib l e to c o n s i d e r numerical simulation of fluid flow systems by solving the exact conservation equations. As a result there is considerable interest in numerical techniques for integrating the Navier-Stokes equ}[io~s. In this field, various numerical integration schemes have been attempted ~ -Jl. One of the most interesting is the method of splitting proposed by Yanenko. (4) In this technique, the N dimensional unsteady Navier-Stokes equations are reduced to a coupled set of N-one dimensional unsteady flow problems. As a consequence, implicit or high order explicit numerical schemes for I-D unsteady equations can be used to perform the numerical integration. This paper summarizes the results of the study.
