Abstract

An effective method of taking account of the influence of the transverse inhomogeneity of an external inviscid stream on the boundary layer is the method of mean-mass flow quantities [i, 2] based on the local replacement of the inhomogeneous external stream by an equivalent homogeneous stream. A generalization of this method is proposed below for the neighborhood of the spreading line of a three-dimensional boundary layer being developed along the cold surface of a body in an inhomogeneous inviscid stream. Results (and a comparison with experiment) are presented for the upwind generator of a slender blunt cone as an illustration.
