Abstract

Efficient computation of the bit error rate (BER) for the coherent <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">M</tex> -ary PSK signals with Gray code bit mapping is considered. A closed-form expression for the exact BER of 8-ary PSK is presented. Tight upper and lower bounds on BER are also obtained for <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">M</tex> -ary PSK with larger <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">M</tex> .
