Abstract
A direct optimisation technique for computing the parameters of a sixth order minimum volume superconducting solenoid is described. Both the inside and outside notched geometries are considered. A set of nomograms are given from which the coil parameters, the homogeneity and the volume of the superconducting wire required can be read directly as a function of the Fabry number. The variation of the homogeneity with each of the coil parameters is also presented.
