Abstract

The development of a robust, efficient and accurate nonequilibrium flow solver for reentry flows in a wide altitude and velocity range is a challenging task. A detailed and consistent thermochemical modeling is needed in the gas-phase. Moreover, a detailed gas-wall interaction model has to be developed which models at least the most important physico-chemical processes at the wall in the continuum and in the slip flow regime. Finally a robust, efficient and accurate solver has to be set up in order to handle strong shocks and the extremely different time scales which may occur in nonequilibrium flows.
