Abstract
Lawyers are heavily involved in the drafting of Security Council resolutions, particularly in the case of France, the United Kingdom and the United States among the permanent Members. Diplomatic or consular law should make its position plain to writers on international law drafting commentaries on the relevant treaty or general area of international or European law. The Conference notes that the quality of the drafting of Community legislation is crucial if it is to be properly implemented by the competent national authorities and better understood by the public and in business circles. A more specific guide to legislative drafting in the field of contract law is now under preparation. This initiative, known as the Common Frame of Reference (CFR), originated in the European Commission's 2001 Communication on European Contract Law and was formally proposed in the Commission's Action Plan on Contract Law.
