The structures are believed to result from localized compressive stresses generated within the hanging-wall block during normal fault movement in a regional extensional stress field. Such compressive stresses may be generated by block movement over an irregular normal fault surface or by interactions of sub-blocks in the hanging-wall block. This content is PDF only.
