Abstract
Porites Cylindrica was used to understand their compressive deformation behaviour along the growth direction. Powder X-Ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and uniaxial compression testing were employed to study microstructure, phase analysis and mechanical properties, respectively. An average strength of 8.85±1MPa and modulus of 12.22±2.4GPa were measured. Failure analysis showed the influence of nanoscale microstructural features on fracture surface with steps and striations on flat fracture of struts.
