Abstract

Measurements of the sectional area of the human facial canal revealed that changes in distribution of small blood vessels and capillaries and the amount of loose connective tissue are responsible for compression of the facial nerve. A newly designed nerve compressor was applied to the facial nerve trunk of the rabbit which allowed constant compression to the nerve. The effects of compression and decompression of the facial nerve could be demonstrated in controlled conditions.
