Abstract

Compression of the 5 ps pulses from a cw passively additive-pulse mode-locked Nd:YLF laser yields pulses of 170 fs in duration at an average power of 1.5 W, corresponding to a peak power of 115 kW. At average power levels well above the Raman threshold in the optical fiber used in the pulse compression, the stimulated Raman amplification is not a power limiting factor.
