Abstract

Combined power generation system based on Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) is a flexible and efficient energy conversion technology that takes advantage of numerous energy sources to generate electricity. Several design parameters play a role in deciding which hybrid system based on SOFC power generation to use. These parameters include SOFC stack operating pressure and temperature, fuel type, fuel processing subsystem quirks, and steam production for reforming, either by anode recirculation or heat recovery steam generator. SOFC-Gas Turbine (GT) configuration can improve the overall system efficiency by 36.8% compared to the base SOFC system. The combined efficiency of a SOFC, organic Rankine cycle (ORC), and gas turbine (GT) system is approximately 34% more than that of the base GT cycle, and 6% more than that of the hybrid SOFC-GT sub-system. Waste heat cycles like ORC, Kalina cycle, steam turbine, and transcritical CO2 cycle improve the SOFC-GT system efficiency by about 11%, 6%, 15%, and 9% respectively. In future, researchers can categorize SOFC based applications and their challenges.
