Abstract

The purpose of this book is to present a clear and basic review of the theory, therapy, and surgery involved in the treatment of strabismus as practiced at the Washington University Hospital in St. Louis. As stated in the preface, the review constitutes only a guideline to the subject, not to all aspects of ocular motility, and it does not refer to all existing opinions. The authors use a question-and-answer format throughout the book to present their material. The first part of the book consists of the basic anatomy, physiologic aspects, optics, and medical terminology applicable to ocular motility. The second part of the book deals with the possible sensory adaptations caused by defects of ocular motility and explains the methods of investigation, including the operation and purpose of various orthoptic instruments and exercises.
