Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of comprehensive nursing intervention for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis in patients with cancer after radiotherapy. Methods 100 with malignant tumor taking radiation treatment at our hospital from March, 2015 to April, 2016 were randomly divided into a prevention group and a control group, 50 cases for each group. The control group were given routine nursing intervention after radiotherapy and the prevention group comprehensive nursing intervention, including diet nursing, oral care, traditional Chinese medicine, psychological counseling, and other measures. The incidence of oral mucositis after radiotherapy and treatment effect were observed in both groups. The nursing effects were compared between these two groups. Results The incidence of oral mucositis was significantly lower in the prevention group than in the control group, with a statistical difference (P<0.01). The cured time was (3.98±1.26) d and all the 8 patients were cured in the prevention group, with a cured rate of 100.00%. The cured time was (4.04±1.37) d and 9 were cured in the control group, with a cured rate of 64.29%. There were statistical differences in white blood cells and platelets results between before and after treatment in both groups (P<0.01). Conclusion Comprehensive care intervention can effectively reduce the incidence of oral mucositis after radiotherapy; targeted nursing interventions is effective oral care, reducing the severity of mucositis, so that patients actively cooperate with treatment and promote healthy recovery.
