Abstract

The goal of the paper is to provide guidelines for building a comprehensive model that fosters humanitarian engineering education. The paper brings the voice of field practitioners and students, in addition to academic research, to determine the most critical attitudes, skills, and capacity building practice for empowering humanitarian engineers. A large pool of data related to the research topic was collected through an online questionnaire answered by 187 members of Engineering Without Borders. Inductive analysis methodology was used to analyze the survey results. Moreover, scholarly literature review was done to learn about the shortcomings in conventional engineering education and how it could be reformed to meet humanitarian engineering challenges.
