Abstract

This paper describes a systematic investigation of the influence of heat treatment parameters of the partial melting process on the microstructure, the superconducting transition and the transport critical current density ( J ct) of electrophoretically deposited Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O 8+ δ /silver tapes (EPD Bi-2212/Ag tapes). The behavior of this material is found to differ from that of Ag-sheathed, dip-coated or doctor-blade-cast tapes. Our processing conditions herein described are favorable for the industrial manufacture of tape conductors. J ct values of 1.0×10 6 and 5.0×10 5 A/cm 2 at 4.2 K in an applied field of 0 and 15 T, respectively, is expected to be achievable in EPD Bi-2212/Ag tapes.
